Wordless. Listen to feel.

Are you ready, more than ever, to feel? We tend to gloss over our emotions, often telling ourselves we should be feeling something different from what we’re actually experiencing – less of this, more of that, a feeling that’s more fitting or appropriate for the specific situation we’re in.

Here’s a radical suggestion: how about we simply allow ourselves to feel what we feel? This isn’t about wallowing. This is about honouring the full spectrum of emotion from joy to pain and everything in between. It’s about intending to feel, more wholly, which means not negating or numbing what you feel right now and not avoiding the pleasure or the discomfort.

(On a side note: I think joy is our naturally preferred state. The other, less joy-filled emotions we experience may be intense, but they’re transitory, just passing through. We always return to joy. So if you’re feeling shitty, feel shitty. Share your shit. Throw a pity party. Let the tears flow. And you’ll flow straight back into joy again.)

The beauty of emotion is that we get to choose to feel the way we want to feel. But first, we need to feel. Full stop.

If you want to be moved, you have to allow your emotions to move through you. Twitter Bird Icon: Neshika's Tweetable
